Next Official Calvary Boot Camp Cycle

The next official, 8-week cycle of Calvary's boot camp begins on Monday, August 22, 2005. Please meet at the soccer field no later than 600 hours (i.e., 6am) as we will conduct an official physical training (i.e., PT) test consisting of two minutes of sit-ups, two minutes of pushups, and a two mile run. We will have a full hour just in the administrative tasks and the PT test so you may want to arrive earlier to do some extra stretching.

Gary Strohschein and I (Bob Hines) will be the primary TAC officers for this cycle as Frank is disabled with an injury to his Achilles tendon.

There will be a $10 fee for participation in the boot camp to help offset the cost of the facilities. Please remember to bring the participation fee on the 22nd. Scholarships are available if funds are an obstacle. Please speak to Gary or me privately if you need one.

You will be required to purchase at least one official boot camp tee-shirt, but you may purchase as many as you want. The shirts will not be available immediately but will be available the second or third week of boot camp as we will need to get a good estimate of the sizes and number of shirts to order. The exact price for the shirts is not yet set but it is anticipated that they will be less than $5 each. You will be required to wear the official tee-shirt each Friday and are encouraged to wear them on the other two days. It is recommended that you purchase as least two shirts in order to lessen the laundry burden.

You should wear comfortable grey, black, or navy athletic shorts, a sleeved tee-shirt long enough to be tucked into the shorts, thick socks and good running shoes. Shorts of mid-thigh length are recommended. During boot camp, we will be leaning and bending over in various orientations and we only want a full moon once a month. Ladies, make sure the collars of your tee-shirts are fairly tight for modesty sake.

You don't have to be in shape to participate because that is the purpose of the boot camp. However, we do recommend that you check with your doctor before starting, especially if you have not engaged in serious exercise in a while.

What to Expect

The boot camp will be a physical challenge. IT WILL BE ARDUOUS!. You will be "encouraged" to exert yourself beyond what you think you can do. That said, exercise modification is allowed and recommended for those who reach their limit earlier than others.

At various times, you be required to sit, lie (face-up and face-down), roll, or crawl in wet grass, on the gym floor, or on the asphalt in the parking lot. You will get dirty, sweaty, and odorous.

You can expect the encouragement and support of your classmates. You will be accountable to them. Your actions or inactions will have consequences for them.

Expect to be get in better shape. You will be able to walk up stairs without breathing hard. You will sleep deeper and more restful at night. You will loose inches but not necessarily pounds (as muscle weighs more than fat).

To feed you spiritually as well as physically, we will have a short devotional and share prayer request time at the end of each session.
